The Belle Isle Episode
Place & Year: Belle Isle, Detroit ,USA / 2008
Its summer; I had to go somewhere after the longest dormant period of my lifetime
during the Michigan winter; I thought I would for an appetizer before the dinner.
It was Belle Isle, just shoring my GM office building in the downtown of Detroit
between USA and Canada.
At first I thought I would take a drive alone to the Isle ,but then one of my friends
accompanied me in the scenic drive inside the Isle. Gas prices are soaring high
up in the sky,but then our tank was almost empty. The journey started with our drive
to the near by COSTCO gas station where they sell gas at cheap prices (Wasn’t cheap
enough for me though). Had a long line of cars waiting to fuel up their tanks with
the cheap fuel, so was ours.

Belle Isle, Detroit
After that it is just hitting the interstate 75 south towards Detroit downtown (45
mins drive) , which is nothing but my same route to office daily (Sick!). But then
there were road works and we had to detour and use GPS to find the way back to Downtown
and then to Belle isle.
Detroit being the most dangerous city in the States doesn’t impress or invite many
tourists to this scenic Isle across the river that runs between Canada and USA.
But it din’t matter to us. We went around the Isle and stopped our vehicle at many
scenic parts and grabbed a few shots.
The first portion of the island was a beach with waves no more than a foot high.
But the sea gulls flying at low heights nearer to the waters and the beautiful skyline
of the GM HQ standing strong was just too good to be captured in a photograph.
There were several other places where we stopped by and took snaps ; one such place
was a fishing spot with a few swans swimming across; the seeing USA across the river
was quite a sight. There was also a ISKCON based “Festival of India” celebration
in the Isle with African Americans and also the American guyz swarming around in
Saffron. In between were the Indian Americans !
After a two to three hour photo session in the Isle ,we found our way back to the
Canterbury apartments in Troy , where I live. And this was just the appetizer for
more that were to come.
